How Content Works

Content on your platform is organized as a hierarchy. Any piece of content can contain other content underneath it — the same way a show contains seasons, and a season contains episodes. A video can only be attached to content that has nothing underneath it. This keeps things clear: content with other content underneath it organizes your catalog, and content with nothing underneath it is what actually plays.

Content fields

Every piece of content — no matter where it sits in the hierarchy — has the following fields:

FieldDescription
TitleDisplay name shown to viewers
DescriptionOptional summary or synopsis
Release dateContent with a future release date is listed and can be added to watchlists, but the video is locked until the date passes
Subscription tierWhich tier is required to watch. Leave empty for free content

Ad breaksConfigure ad placements for the video on this node

Content that organizes vs. content that plays

  • Content with other content underneath it (shows, seasons, courses) — organizes your catalog; cannot have a video attached
  • Content with nothing underneath it (episodes, films, lessons) — this is where a video goes; can have a video attached

These two states are mutually exclusive: adding content underneath something removes its video if it had one, and attaching a video to something prevents other content from being added underneath it.

Viewers browse through your content naturally. Clicking a show reveals its seasons and episodes. The watch page opens when they select something with a video attached. Progress and watchlist state are tracked for each piece of content.
